Theresa Marcic

Terezija, aka Theresa “Reska" Marcic (Vlasic), age 93, of Chicago, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 1, 2026.

Born on July 3, 1932, in Kraska Vas, Slovenia. Theresa’s early life was defined by resilience. During World War II, her family’s life in rural Slovenia was upended when they were forced into labor in Germany. Seeking a peaceful future, her family immigrated to the United States in 1950, settling in the Pilsen neighborhood of Chicago. Theresa was creative and resourceful; well known for her delicious meals, varieties of strudels and poticas that brought her family together. She was a naturalist before her time. Above all, her greatest joy was her family, and she cherished every moment watching her grandchildren grow.

She is survived by her four loving daughters and their families: Lilly and Socrates Capoyianes, and their children Nicholas (Diane) Hudson & Lucas, Alexander (Ashley) Olivia and Finn; Christopher (Lauren) Leonardo; Ferdinanda Marcic and Kevin Loftus, and their children Anna, Otto, Finn, and Tully; Catherine and Gerald Joyce, and daughters Claire, Brigitte, and Emma; and Brigitta and Steven Brostrom, and daughter Freia. Sister, Angela Balaker and brother, Vincent Vlasic, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Theresa was preceded in death by husband, Ferdinand Marcic; parents, Matija and Angela Vlasic; sister, Mary Kranjec, and brothers, Stanko and Frank Vlasic.

The family invites you to join them in prayer on Friday, June 5 for a visitation from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Slovenian Catholic Mission (14246 Main Street, Lemont, IL 60439). Following the mass, a graveside burial service (rite of committal) will take place at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery at 7201 Archer Rd, Justice, Illinois 60458, where she will be laid to rest near her parents.

In lieu of flowers or traditional gifts, donations made in Theresa’s memory to the Slovenian Catholic Cultural Center or St. Mary's Slovenian Catholic Mission would be deeply appreciated by the family.
