Steven Robert Sparks, age 63, of Naperville, passed away on December 25, 2022.
He was with his wife, Lee Ann, their two children, Elizabeth and Quinlan, and the
family dog Drummer, when he passed. He is survived by his mother, Shirley Greif,
and her husband Richard, as well as two siblings and each of their spouses - Ann
and John Feldman, and John and Eva Sparks - and a sizable passel of nieces and
nephews. They all miss him dearly, and will need to do their part to increase pun
output at family gatherings to maintain equilibrium in his absence.
Before taking early retirement, Steven worked as a software engineer. Afterward,
he stood as a stalwart defender against both the encroaching forces of dandelions
and canine boredom, spending many dedicated hours on amateur landscaping and
siphoning off the energy of a 3-year-old pitbull at the dog park.
He enjoyed classic science fiction, rooting for the weird-looking underdog in
BattleBots, and taking a lot of long walks to catch up with the neighbors and their
pets.
Per his wishes, he will be cremated and his remains used in a number of plantings.
Further memorials of flowers and trees are welcome, though the family
recommends donations to glioblastoma research, no-kill animal shelters, or your
local left-leaning politician of choice, to better reflect his hopes for a kinder, fairer
world.
