Raymond “Ray” Armstrong, 65, of Bolingbrook, Illinois, passed away on September 24, 2025. He was born on March 12, 1960, in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, to Robert “Bob” and Shirley Armstrong.
Born with a hole in his heart, Ray outlived doctors’ original estimates by over 64 years. His early life was shaped by his father’s service in the Air Force, which took the family to Florida, Guam, California, Libya, and many other places around the world. These experiences instilled in him a resilience that carried through his life.
Over the years, Ray held many jobs, but the most meaningful tenure to him was at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Naperville as a sexton. He took pride in his work to serve and support the church community.
He found joy in life’s simple pleasures: playing games with friends and family, engaging in conversations about the supernatural and spiritual, being an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing, and never missing an episode of Jeopardy!
Ray is survived by his father, Dr. Rev. Robert “Bob” Armstrong; aunt, Joan Murray; former wife and mother of his children, Laura Armstrong; children, April (Steve) Clark, Bobby (Diana) Armstrong, and Timothy (Stephanie Nordlund) Armstrong; and grandchildren, Jacki Owens, Ben Armstrong, and Abby Armstrong. He was preceded in death by his mother, Shirley Armstrong, and brother, Stephen Armstrong.
In accordance with his wishes, Ray will be cremated. A small memorial service will be held on October 4, 2025 where family and close friends will celebrate his life.
