Randall ( Randy) Edan Mika

Randall Edan Mika a longtime Naperville resident passed away on Monday June 22, 2026 after a long illness. He was 70 years old. Randy was married to Suzanne Louise (Yunker) Mika for 36 years and was a devoted husband and father. His top priority was always supporting his 2 sons in whatever talents or interests they had. He always attended every concert, game, and track meet that he could.

Randy was born in Chicago, IL on June 3, 1956 to his parents Edward Joseph Mika and Evelyn Mary (Von Drasek) Mika. He graduated from Arlington Heights High School in 1974. He graduated from The University of Illinois in 1978 with a degree in Nuclear Energy and Public Policy. He also received a Masters Degree in Business Administration with a Minor in Project Management from The Keller Graduate School of Management in 2001. He began working for The Commonwealth Edison Company in 1976 as a meter reader, and upon graduating from the U of I, began working at the Zion Nuclear Power Generating Station in Zion, IL holding many different positions over his 43 year career with the company. He worked in many different positions on the Technical Staff, in the Control Room, and in the Work Control Department. In 1996, the company loaned him to The Institute of Nuclear Power Operations (INPO) in Atlanta, GA for 2 years. While there, he traveled around the country with teams of INPO Inspectors evaluating the performance of many Nuclear Power plants. Back at Exelon, which was the new name for the nuclear power generation portion of ComEd, he worked in the corporate offices in Quality Assurance Department and then finally the Emergency Preparedness Department, where he wrote scenarios and ran Emergency Preparedness Drills, coordinating efforts between the Nuclear Stations and State and Local Officials to ensure the health and safety of the public. He retired in April 2019.

Randy was an avid O Gauge train collector, a computer enthusiast, a space exploration fan, a scuba diver, a golfer, an escape room scenario creator, a K Drama devotee, a British Mysteries fan, a Gold Rush lover, a political debater, a retro robot collector, and a frequent traveler visiting over 4 continents, 21 countries, and 44 states. Randy ran the Zion Station Golf League for many years, and even managed to shoot a hole in one on the Bonnie Brook golf Course in Waukegan, IL. While attending a performance of the Will Rogers Follies in NYC, Randy was sitting in the front row of the theater, and Mac Davis leaned over and shook his hand during the song “I Never Met a Man I Didn’t Like”.

Randy was preceded in death by his parents Edward and Evelyn Mika, his sister Teresa Mika, his in laws Roy and Patricia Yunker, and his brother in law Roy Yunker Jr. He is survived by his wife Suzanne, and his 2 sons Maxwell (28), and Samuel (22), as well as his sister Michele Mika, and his brother in law John (Lisa) Yunker, and nephews Matthew (19) and Anthony (16), and niece Anna(16).

Visitation will be held on July 1, 2026 at 10:30 AM at Holy Spirit Catholic Church located at 2003 Hassert Blvd. Naperville, IL 60564. Mass will follow at 11:30 AM. A luncheon will be held at 1:00 PM at the Bolingbrook Country Club located at 2001 Rodeo Drive Bolingbrook, IL 60490.
