Mary Jane Shereda

Mary Jane Shereda, age 84, of Plainfield, Illinois, passed away peacefully Friday, June 19, 2026 surrounded by the love of her family.

Mary was born September 4, 1941 in Chicago, Illinois. She moved to Springfield with her children and husband and remained there until 2009, the year she reconnected with her high school sweetheart, Joe Greenwald. Mary and Joe shared 17 memorable years of fun and adventure. 

Left to cherish the memories of Mary are her partner, Joseph Greenwald; sons, Richard T. (Kathy) and Raymond J. (Melissa); daughter-in-law, Ellen Shereda; grandchildren and great grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Sharon McNamara, Kathy Berg, Theresa Lindberg, Joeann (Ken) Hanna, Debbie (Jeff) Clemens and Edwin "Buddy" Keefner; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her oldest son, Phillip; brothers, John, Phil and Al; sisters, Ann (Pat) and Ruth (Jim); brother-in-law, Herb; several nephews and a niece.

As it was Mary's wishes, cremation rites have been accorded.

The family invites you to celebrate Mary's life on Sunday, August 16, 2026 from 12:30 pm to 4:30 pm at the Moose Lodge (118 E. 10th Street, Lockport, IL).  Lunch will be provided.
