Kenneth C. Scholvin, 83, of Palos Heights, IL, passed away peacefully on April 27, 2024. A lifelong South Sider, Ken was born in Chicago on May 18, 1940. After graduating from Lindblom High School in 1958, he ventured to Colorado to attend Adams State University, playing basketball there for a year before returning home to help support his family. In 1965 he married the love of his life, Dyanne McCormick, and together they raised two children, John and Julie, at their longtime home in Oak Lawn. Ken and Dyanne’s partnership endured over fifty years until she succumbed to multiple sclerosis. For the last two decades of her life, Ken was always by Dyanne’s side, single handedly enabling her to live comfortably in their home.
A natural and gifted athlete, Ken was passionately interested in sports, in particular his beloved White Sox and Bears, supporting them through thick and thin—mostly thin. He also loved jazz, golf, old movies, singing, and following current events and politics. He was always proud to support his grandchildren, whom he loved dearly, in their artistic and athletic endeavors. He was a devoted protector of his family, and his sense of humor and charm, delivered in his robust bass voice, will be missed by all whose lives he touched.
Ken was predeceased by his wife, Dyanne (née McCormick); his father, Charles; his mother, Mary (née Flanagan); and his brothers, Jerry and Charley (Jean). He is survived by his son, John (Sharon Barry); his daughter, Julie (John) Crumley; his sister, Joan (Victoria Brush); his sister-in-law, Mary McCormick; his brother-in-law, Mike (Jane) McCormick; his grandchildren, Danny and Leah Scholvin, and Harper Crumley; and myriad nieces and nephews. He was a beloved friend to many.
A memorial service will be held this summer; details to come. Memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association (https://www.lung.org) or the National Multiple Sclerosis Society (https://www.nationalmssociety.org).
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday June 22, 2024 at 11:30AM The Carleton 1110 Pleasant Street, Oak Park, IL 60302
