On June 13th, 2025, Gail Sandzimier became present with the Lord at the age of 83.
Loving sister to Bernard Cue Johnston (Doris) and loving aunt to Judith Hughes, Blaine and Bryan Johnston. Dear niece of Chrystene Robbins.
Loving sister-in-law and aunt to many Sandzimier brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews.
A cherished mother, Gail is survived by her children: Greta Sandzimier (Jay Crowder), Amy (Marc) Hunter, Karl Sandzimier and Myra Bertling.
Devoted grandmother to Jake Sandzimier, Lauren and Leah Bertling, Ethan and Ella Hunter.
She was preceded in death by her husband Edward Sandzimier, parents Jeanette and Ralph Johnston, and sister Edith Anne Wilkinson.
Gail was born on November 28, 1941, and raised in Brundidge, Alabama, where she met Edward, her life partner. The couple married in August of 1969 after which they moved to Illinois to begin their life together. In 1975, they settled in Bolingbrook, Illinois, where Gail proudly lived for 50 years.
While raising her family, Gail worked a variety of part-time jobs, including positions at a local dry cleaner's, White Hen Pantry, and as a nanny. She later served as a Customer Service Representative for Cigna Healthcare.
Gail's passions included spending time with family and friends, stamping, baking, doing puzzles, and watching her favorite soap opera, Days of Our Lives. She maintained close connections with loved ones near and far, cherishing phone calls with friends and family across the country. She also enjoyed a good garage sale or Goodwill run.
Her faith was the cornerstone of her life. A devout Southern Baptist, Gail often said, "I will have to pray about that" when faced with decisions. She was a dedicated member of First Baptist Church of Bolingbrook for five decades.
Gail will be remembered for her sweet, loving, and compassionate spirit. She constantly cared for the well-being of others and brought warmth to everyone she met.
Let us celebrate the beautiful life and legacy of Gail Sandzimier.
