Elizabeth Moore, beloved wife, mother and grandmother passed away just before noon on July 14, 2022. She passed peacefully hearing the comforting words of her family and the music of John Denver.
Liz was born to James R. and Sadie Baisden on Sept. 4 1934 in Ethel, West Virginia. Throughout her life she carried those pieces of West Virginia with her through her love of country music, and country-style cooking. She built up quite the recipe collection and shared many artery-clogging and delicious meals with her children and grandchildren. In much demand was her Cincinnati Chicken, homemade syrup and biscuits, and Godfather Spaghetti.
Elizabeth married Ray Moore on Feb 17, 1954 and they had two children, Vicki and Micky Moore.
In 1964 the family moved from Huntington, WV to Aurora, Il where they made their home for many years.
During her working years, she attended Waubonsee Community College taking business courses. Liz loved her job at Lytton's in Northgate Shopping Center, working in the Men's Furnishings Department. When the store moved to Fox Valley, Liz followed. When Lytton's closed their doors she continued to keep busy working part time at Nicholson Elementary School.
Liz and Ray followed their dream of living in their beloved Florida. They built homes in Ormond Beach then later in Daytona Beach. In 2020 they moved back to Illinois where they could be close to family.
Ray and Liz loved their Florida beaches, playing golf together, and gardening. Liz enjoyed crossword puzzles, games, reading, road trips, naps, and long daily walks. She was quite the pool shark, winning awards for her playing. More than anything she cherished visits with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Liz is survived by her husband, Ray, of 68 years, her children, Vicki Moore of Sugar Grove and Micky (Sue) Moore of DeKalb. Grandsons, Grant (Rachel) Hopper, Marshall Precht, Chris (Michelle) Moore and Matt (Sarah) Moore. Surviving siblings are Josephine Hightower, Barbara Meade, Jerry (Donna) Baisden, David (Shelia) Baisden, and many nieces and nephews.
Elizabeth "Mamaw" Moore will be sincerely missed by her family who loved her deeply. They will remember her every time they eat biscuits and gravy, or hear a Kenny Rogers or John Denver song.
