David Stephens Simoni (48), Snowmass Village, CO – Obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of David Stephens Simoni (48). David passed unexpectedly in his home in Snowmass Village, CO.
David grew up in Naperville, went to Prairie Elementary, Washington Jr. High and graduated from Naperville North High School, having played varsity hockey and baseball. He went on to college, continued playing hockey recreationally, and received a bachelor’s degree with honors in Industrial Engineering from Northern Illinois University.
His passion was snowboarding, and he moved out to Colorado in the early 2000’s to pursue snowboarding and other passions like hockey, dirt biking and climbing. He worked as a snowboard instructor in Snowmass, teaching countless children and adults how to love the sport and do it well. He also worked in hospitality and as a property manager in Aspen and Snowmass, Colorado.
He was known for being very kind, generous and patient. His smile was handsome and bright, and his eyes sparkled when he smiled. His favorite way to wish any one a happy birthday was to say, “Happy Bellybutton Day!”
David is survived by his beloved mother, GraceAnn, sister Kimberly (Chicago), and canine sisters Jena and BeeBee, of Naperville, IL. He is preceded in death by his father, Randall William Simoni (78), who passed just five months before.
A memorial service for David is scheduled for his friends and family in Colorado on Saturday, June 13 at the Snowmass Village Chapel Yurt at 5:00 pm, followed by additional words and remembrance on the mountain.
A dual memorial is also scheduled in Naperville, Illinois, for David and Randy Simoni on Sunday, July 26 at Community United Methodist Church. Visitation begins at 3:00 pm in the chapel, with the service at 4:00 pm in the sanctuary and a fellowship meal at 5:00 pm.
"Death leaves a heartache no one can heal; love leaves a memory no one can steal."
