Carmen Castro Obituary

Carmen Elisa Saavedra De Castro, 94, passed away peacefully on May 16, 2022 in Bolingbrook, IL with family and friends by her side.

Born and raised in Fusagasugá-Cundinamarca, she was a proud Colombian woman loved by many. Her parents were Ancelmo Saavedra and Ernestina Sosa, her husband Benicio Castro and her youngest son Hernando Castro.

The matriarch of the family is survived by her daughters Fanny Castro, Yolanda Rincon and Martha Salcedo; her grandchildren Eduardo Lozano, Paola Lozano, Peter Salcedo, Andres Rincon, Vanessa Rodriguez, John Salcedo and Kamila Rincon and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was a woman of unwavering faith and admiration for God who will be remembered for her strength, tenacity, elegance, love and compassion. She is a fervent believer in the Virgencita, especially the Virgen del Carmen for which she was named after.

Carmen Elisa loved her roots. She honored her National Anthem which she never forgot and every time she saw the flag of her country, she was proud and said ¡Viva Colombia! She also recited many Colombian sayings.

Carmen Elisa enjoyed drinking her coffee in the morning from her balcony, watching novelas and she was an animal lover, especially of dogs and birds. She found beauty in plants and flowers. She had a beautiful habit of always blessing the food before cooking it and she enjoyed many typical Colombian dishes.

The family will receive guests on Thursday, May 19, 2022 from 4:00 to 8:00 at the Blackburn-Giegerich-Sonntag Funeral Home (1500 Black Rd Joliet, IL 60435). Carmen Elisa will receive final blessings at St. Dominic Parish (440 E Briarcliff Bolingbrook, IL 60440) on Friday, May 20, 2022 at 11:30. Inurnment to be private

Carmen Elisa Saavedra De Castro de 94 años, falleció en paz el mayo 16 en Bolingbrook, IL con familiares y amigos a su lado.

Nacida y criada en Fusagasugá - Cundinamarca, fue orgullosa Colombiana amada por muchos.

Sus padres fueron Ancelmo Saavedra y Ernestina Sosa, su esposo Benicio Castro y su hijo menor Hernando Castro.

A la matriarca de la familia le sobreviven sus hijas Fanny Castro, Yolanda Rincon y Martha Salcedo; sus nietos Eduardo Lozano, Paola Lozano, Peter Salcedo, Andres Rincon, Vanessa Rodriguez, John Salcedo y Kamila Rincon y 12 bisnietos.

Fue una mujer de fe inquebrantable y admiración por Dios que será recordada por su fortaleza, tenacidad, elegancia, amor y compasión. Ferviente creyente de la virgencita en especial de la virgen del Carmen por la que le pusieron su nombre.

Carmen Elisa amaba su raíces. Honraba su Himno Nacional el que nunca olvido y cada vez que veía la bandera de su país, se enorgullecía y decía ¡Viva Colombia! Tambien recitaba dichos Colombianos.

Carmen Elisa disfrutaba tomar su café en las mañanas desde su balcón, ver novelas y fue amante de los animales; especialmente los perros y pajaros. Encontraba belleza en las plantas  y flores. Tenía como bella costumbre siempre bendecir la comida antes de cocinarla y disfrutaba de muchos platos típicos Colombianos.

La familia recibirá invitados el jueves 19 de mayo de 2022 de 4:00 a 8:00 en Blackburn-Giegerich-Sonntag Funeral Home (1500 Black Rd Joliet, IL 60435). Carmen Elisa recibirá las bendiciones finales en St. Dominic Parish (440 E Briarcliff Bolingbrook, IL 60440) el viernes 20 de mayo de 2022 a las 11:30. Enurment para ser privado
