Byron Thoren Obituary

Byron G. Thoren, a beacon of kindness and wisdom, passed away at the age of 78 on April 29, 2025, in Joliet, IL. Born on March 28, 1947, in Harvey, IL, Byron was a man whose loving presence was felt by all who knew him. He spent his final moments surrounded by his cherished wife Leaving behind a legacy of love and devotion.

Byron was a devoted husband to Kathryn Thoren, with whom he shared a life full of joy and companionship. His unwavering support and love for his family were evident in every aspect of his life. He was a loving brother to Theodore F. Thoren and his wife Ruth, a relationship that was nurtured with care and mutual respect throughout the years.

As a father, Byron's heart knew no bounds. He was the cherished father of Geoffrey (and his wife Linda) and Christopher (and his wife Kate). He instilled in them the values of kindness and wisdom, guiding them through life's journey with a gentle hand and a steadfast spirit. His role as a grandfather was one of his greatest joys; he was the devoted Grandfather to Hunter (and his wife Tali), Blake, Brayan, and Nolan. His love continued to blossom as a Great Grandfather to Ella Rose Thoren, a testament to the enduring nature of his affection and guidance.

Byron's warmth extended to his role as a fond uncle to Theodore J. Thoren and his wife Kim, and Timothy D. Thoren and his husband  Jason Rice. Alex and Alyssa will remember him as a great uncle who always had a kind word and a wise story to share.

"Byron will be fondly remembered by his brother-in-law, Bill Hanney, and all of the Hanney nieces and nephews Lori Radtke and husband Don, Cheri Luchtefeld and husband Marty, Kim Clark with husband Scott, Tom
Hanney and Bill Hanney. He will be remembered for his kindness and warmth, great conversations and corny jokes."

His life was one of service not only to his family but also to his country. Byron was a proud recipient of the Bronze Star, a decoration awarded for his bravery and commitment. His military honors will be fittingly commemorated on Thursday, June 12th, 2025, at 12:00, at the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, a setting befitting a man of his stature and dedication.

Byron's professional life and community involvement were marked by the same principles that defined his personal life: kindness, wisdom, and love. His work history and association involvement are testaments to his commitment to serving others and making a positive impact in the world.

The words that best describe Byron—kind, wise, and loving—only begin to scratch the surface of a man whose life was a tapestry of compassion and strength. He was a pillar in the lives of those he touched, and the memories of his gentle guidance and unwavering support will live on in the hearts of his loved ones.

As we bid farewell to Byron G. Thoren, we celebrate a life lived with honor, a life that was a gift to all who knew him. His legacy is one of profound love and the quiet strength that comes from a life well-lived. Though he may have passed from this world, the light of his spirit will continue to shine brightly in the lives of his family, friends, and all who were blessed to know him.
