Barbara Richards

Barbara Richards nee Sedemka – 82, of Oak Brook, IL  passed away peacefully on 12/15/24 after a long illness.   

   Born in Chicago, she was the cherished daughter of the late Peter and Sylvia.  Barbara grew up surrounded by her extended family and lifelong friends.   She became a proud graduate Northwestern University and begin her teaching career in Elementary Education at Kolmar School.  In college and while teaching, Barb acquired new friends and the freedom to travel.  Barbara eagerly explored Europe, and was always delighted to visit a body of water, from sea side to pool side.  

As her teaching career progressed, she went on to earn her Masters Degree in Special Education from National Lewis University.  Taking a break after marrying & raising her daughter Beth, Barb returned to the far more relaxing task of wrangling whole rooms full of children.   Ultimately finished her career at College of DuPage.   Her work spanned 40 years of helping students from first grade through college master language and literacy skills.  

Barbara is preceded in death by her parents Peter & Sylvia; Aunts Carrie Pankau, Bessie Pelican, Mamie Beadell; Cousins Eddie & Nester Sedemka, and Linda Kwak

And survived by her Daughter Beth Richards, Cousin Nancy Aldrich (Jay), The Pankau Family.  And her many life long friends.
