Arthur (Art) Janke Obituary

Arthur Mallon Janke

Art Janke, age 72, passed away peacefully on December 29, 2018, surrounded by his beloved family and animals, after a courageous battle with oral cancer.

Art was born and raised in Joliet, then traveled around the states for several years, but finally returned to Joliet to live out his life.  He was a free spirit, full of life with the most positive attitude.  Art was the son of former mayor of Joliet, Arthur O. Janke, and attended Joliet Catholic High School, where he excelled in athletics and played for legendary coach Gordie Gillespie.  He also played basketball and baseball at Lewis University.  His baseball talent enabled him to be drafted by the L.A. Dodgers organization.  Art was a long-standing member of Carpenters Union Local 174 Joliet.

Art is survived by his wife of 30 years Bari Bowles; two daughters, Tami (Tom) Beaton of Longmont, CO, Margaret (Anthony) Maccani of Crest Hill; one son Thomas P. Janke (Abbey Umek) of Joliet; two sisters, Carol (Richard – deceased) Cenar of Chicago, Marianne (P. James) Oberg of Joliet; two grandchildren (Brynn and Cade Beaton); and beloved nephew Jimmy Oberg along with other nephews and nieces.

Art was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur O. Janke and Helen Janke (nee Mallon); one brother, Thomas W. Janke; and one sister, Susan Janke O’Keefe.

Per Art’s wishes, his ashes will be spread in the beautiful Rocky Mountains and Austin, Texas. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Hayes Funeral & Cremation Service Bolingbrook, IL 630-536-9507. Please sign on line guestbook at www.hayesfuneral.com
