Alex Guerrero Obituary

Alex Guerrero, known affectionately to friends and family as Alex, passed away peacefully on May 25, 2025, at the age of 44, in Joliet, IL. Born on July 17, 1980, in Chicago, IL, Alex's life was one marked by kindness, intelligence, and an unwavering sense of camaraderie that touched all who knew him.

A proud graduate of Florida International University, Alex dedicated over two decades of his life to a successful career in the insurance field. His colleagues recognized him as not only a consummate professional but also a genuine friend who brought warmth and understanding to every interaction. Alex's work ethic, combined with his approachable demeanor, made him a respected figure in his profession.

But beyond his professional achievements, Alex was a passionate sports enthusiast with a particular love for basketball. Whether playing on the court, cheering from the stands, or engaging in spirited debates about the latest game, Alex's love for the sport was infectious. His joy for the game was paralleled only by the joy he brought to the lives of others.

Alex's friendly nature was a beacon of light to his family, who remember him as the loving brother of John (Melody) Phelps. He was the cherished uncle of John Phelps Jr and Patrick Phelps, whose lives he enriched with his playful spirit and unwavering support. Alex also held a special place in the hearts of his cousins, Bill (Devan) Macias and Nena (Ben) Karpen, with whom he shared an unbreakable bond and countless happy memories.

Preceded in death by his mother, the late Patricia Phelps, Alex carried her legacy of love and compassion throughout his life, extending it to his extended family and many friends. Those who knew Alex can attest to the irreplaceable role he played in their lives, always ready with a kind word, a helping hand, or a listening ear.

Alex's departure leaves behind a void that cannot be filled but also a legacy that will continue to inspire. His memory will live on in the hearts of his loved ones and the many lives he touched with his friendship and kindness. As we say goodbye to Alex Guerrero, we celebrate a life well-lived, a life that exemplified the best of humanity, and a life that will continue to be celebrated by all who were fortunate enough to know him.

Alex's life will be honored in a private ceremony, where his family and friends will gather to share stories, laughter, and the love they all hold for a man who was truly one of a kind. As the sun sets on his earthly journey, we take comfort in knowing that Alex's spirit will continue to shine brightly in the lives of those he loved.
